Parslow and Connolly Shine at Marlboro Main Street Mile
The 4th Annual Marlborough Main Street Mile would go off under almost perfect weather conditions, sunny and 57 degrees. Sixty participants of all ages huddled up at the starting line at the corners of Lincoln and Broad Streets in Marlboro to begin this autumn tradition. Which such conditions, and some applicants who could really run well, the course records were in jeopardy of being broken. The overall best time on the course was a 4.21 by Rich Marion of Garner and the women’s best time was a 5.10 by Rebecca Connelly of Wilmington.
Immediately after the start, Adam Parslow of West Boylston and a member of the Fitchburg State College Track Team, took the lead and was never really challenged. His overall time of 4.28 was a few seconds off the course record. Rebecca Connelly returned to defend her course record, and matched it with a time of 5.10.
Two standouts from the Marlborough High Cross Country Team smashed the best times from a Marlborough resident. Adam Charbonneau (4.39) and Dessie Stefanova (5.23) led their respective children’s division and also marked the fastest Marlborough resident’s time, previously held by Mike Lofrumento and Erin Flynn.
The top Masters for the day included John Kirk from Ashland (4.41) and Ms. Connolly.
The top sponsors for this event includes: The Marlboro Recreation Department, The Marlborough Wellness Committee, The Marlborough Heritage Day Committee, The Marlborough Police Department, The Prospector East Saloon and the outstanding members of the Highland City Striders.
